    The Roamer

The Roamer was built in 1918 by the American Car and Foundry for Mr. Cosden who was an oil magnet from Tulsa, Oklahoma. This railcar was used as his private car. He had many friends and poker playing pals who often rode with him, including the legendary Broadway producer Ziegfeld, car manufacturer Studebaker and American oil magnate, Harry Sinclair. King Edward VIII of England also used this car while visiting the Cosden’s, as did President Dwight Eisenhower in 1964.

    The San Marino

This Heavyweight 1916 Pullman rail car was built as the private car for Henry Edwards Huntington (nephew of Collin P Huntington, one of the founders of Central/Southern Pacific Railways). Henry Huntington built the famous Pacific Electric Railway in Southern California. Many towns, beaches, parks, and a famous library were named after him. Succeeding Henry Huntington’s death, the car was sold to Southern Pacific Railway and renamed after their beautiful hotel on the Monterey Peninsula called Del Monte. In 1985 it reclaimed its original San Marino name. Today, The San Marino is compatible with Amtrak speed requirements.

    The Mission Santa Ynez

Built by the Pullman Sleeping Car Company in 1926, this car started out as a lady’s lounge and sleeper car traveling between Chicago, IL and Minneapolis, MN. It began its travels on the Chicago and Northwestern Railroad but was later sold during the Great Depression to the Southern Pacific Railroad. It was then renamed the Mission Santa Ynez after the Spanish Catholic Mission in California. The Mission offered overnight service between Los Angeles and San Francisco. With the Mission being Amtrak compatible, Aberdeen Carolina and Western has been able to use it for travel to conventions and seminars throughout the US.

    The Pinehurst

A 1912 Pullman car, the Pinehurst ran on the Pennsylvania Railroad between Washington, DC and Buffalo, New York. Although the Pullman Company was known for running first class sleeper cars all across the United States and Mexico, this car was built for first class daytime travel in parlor seats with a dining area and a kitchen. When we acquired this car in 2000, it had all the original furnishings and fixtures but required stripping 32 coats of paint from the mahogany finish to restore this car to its present condition today.

    The Menzies Vista

Previously a 1954 Union Pacific Lounge Car, named “City of St. Louis”, The Menzies Vista has been remodeled by the AC&W Railway. Featuring an exquisite modern Art Deco style, this Dome car signifies true luxury in passenger train travel. This rail car is designed to comfortably sleep ten guests, offering four bedrooms, all with ensuite bathrooms. An all stainless steel kitchen makes meal prep almost effortless. The upper Dome allows 360 views when traveling by rail. The Menzies Vista meets Amtrak requirements and is frequently used for private travel as well as company events.

    The Double Diners

The Double Diners were built in 1954 by the Budd Company to run on the Pennsylvania Railroad’s premier Congressional Train.  This route traveled from Washington DC to New York City.  One dining car features a full chef’s kitchen with a small exclusive dining area in the back, while the other car is a semi-permanently coupled full length dining car.  Together, the two dining cars can seat 84 passengers.

    The Summit View

The Summit View was built in 1954 for the Topeka and Santa Fe Railway. The Summit View was added to the fleet of San Francisco Chief and the El Capitan offering luxury accommodations for passengers. This full-length dome car is one of the original Pennsylvanian Diners that ran on the Congressional between NYC and DC. The railcar features seating for 20 on the lower level and a full kitchen. There is seating for 66 upstairs in the dome, with a 360* view for every passenger.

    Future Finishings

Aberdeen Carolina & Western has additional rail cars in various conditions in our collection. Our staff is positioned to rebuild and renovate these cars to share railway history with others. Currently in the works…
    • The Coffee Creek a boldly futuristic sky top lounge observation car. It was built in 1948 for the Milwaukee Road’s Olympian Hiawatha and is the last of six surviving Pullman Skytop Lounge Sleeper Cars that were originally built. We are honored to have this rare find in our possession. With experienced craftsmanship, ACWR intends to introduce this gem to new life revealing its grand former personality offering history and memories of the Skytops from the past.
    • A Southern Pacific three-quarter-length dome car used on the Shasta Daylight and the Overland Limited Trains
    • The Glen Summit all room heavyweight car
    • A Wooden Pullman palace car
    • A Denver Zephyr Budd Dome Coach car
